I guess you can call it my "default" look. ;) I guess I should clarify that just because I call this my "everyday" look doesn't mean that I wear this much makeup or makeup in general every.single.day. ;)

BB Cream Review + FOTD

BB creams have become very popular in the beauty blogging community. I recently purchased a set ($5.99 but varies where you purchase from) that includes 4 mini BB creams by Skin79. A BB cream is basically a super tinted moisturizer. It has skin healing properties and many people swear by them. For reference, I'm NC20-25 with dry to normal skin.

The ones included are:

Skin79 VIP Gold Label: This BB cream has the consistency of a thick cream, but it applies sheer. The coverage can be built to a light (almost medium) coverage. It dries to a natural finish. This is labeled as a "whitening" BB cream so it has a grey undertone.
Skin79 Triple Function Pink: This one behaves similarly to the VIP Gold. It has a slight powdery finish.
Skin79 The Prestige Diamond: The undertones in this BB cream is beige because it doesn't have the whitening properties. It has a dewy finish with sheer (buildable) coverage.
Skin79 Diamond Pearl: This is the sheerest of the 4 and also has a beige undertone. It has shimmer particles that are visible when applied so I would use this as a subtle highlight on the cheekbones, not all over the face.

All the BB creams feel very nice on the skin and provide moisture. I used them for 1-2 weeks and I did not see an improvement in my skin but I do have pretty normal skin. I really like these as concealers because they stay put & don't cake up.

Wear time: Without setting powder is 4-5 hours. I wore them for 6-7 hours when I used Studio Careblend to set them.

Shade selection: BB Creams are popular in Asian markets and so are products to whiten your skin so many BB creams only come in a few (light) shades. I'm pretty fair and some of these were still too light. You can tell from the picture that it is a tiny bit too light for me but it isn't too noticeable, especially when you add blush/bronzer.
Misc: They all smell kind of like roses. It isn't unpleasant but some people might not like it. All the BB creams in this set have SPF25 PA++ (except the Diamond Pearl).

Overall, I think this is a good set if you want to try BB cream and don't know where to start. ;)

I don't remember everything I'm wearing in this FOTD but I was wearing the VIP Gold BB Cream. The eyes were Goldenrod + Red Brick + a few other things!

Green Smokey Eyes!

Inglot Review (Freedom System, Lipstick, Matte Lip Pencils)

Hello! :)

This post is all about Inglot! :) This brand has become pretty popular in the beauty blogosphere and I'm sure you have already seen a few reviews/videos on them. I've seen a few videos/reviews myself so I decided to pick some up. I ordered two 10-pan palettes in my first order and fell in love so I decided to place another order before the prices go up.

I didn't order mine through the online site; instead I called the Miami store and placed an order with them. It was super easy and they have great customer service! I received my order the very next day! I'm not sure if they added overnight shipping for free or I received it so fast because we are in the same state...either way I was super pleased! :)

Eyeshadows:

Great staying power: They last a few hours (~4-5 hours) without primer and all day with a primer underneath. I don't have very oily eyelids so the time they stay on without primer may vary for you.
Very pigmented: I was not disappointed with these. They are very pigmented, although I do find them slightly powdery but it isn't a big deal.
Price: At $50 for a palette of 10 shadows, they are crazy affordable. I'm not sure when/how much the prices are going up but it is rumored that it will be sometime in May & to $80 a palette. It is a huge increase but I do think the shadows are worth $8 each. They have the quality of MAC & MUFE at cheaper prices.
Packaging: Very slick palettes that don't take much space. You can safely stack up 3, but if you stack more they still hold well/stay in place so they won't slide around in your makeup table.

DS = Double Sparkle (Matte base with sparkle)

M = Matte (similar to MAC Matte2)

S = Shine (similar to MAC Lustre)

AMC = Advance Makeup Component (Similar to MAC Veluxe Pearl & Frost)

P = Pearl (similar to MAC Veluxe Pearl)

I like all the finishes but my least favorite one is Shine. I find them similar to MAC Lustre shadows (with a little more pigmentation) but still sort of chunky.

Lipsticks:

Smell: The lipsticks smell very fruity but not overpowering that you smell it while you have them on.
Lasting Power: They stayed on for about 4 hours on me without lip line/primer.
Pigmentation/Texture: Super pigmented! I would say that are almost as pigmented as Lip Tars. The texture is similar to a MAC Amplified lipstick, a lot of color but very creamy.
Price: A palette of five is $25 so each round lipstick is $5, which is an awesome price for these high quality lipsticks!

Matte Lip Pencils:

They are pretty much the same as the lipsticks but in a matte finish and they don't have the fruity smell. They do last ~5 hours with some eating/drinking.

Pigments:

The store sent me these 2 samples of their pigments so that was really nice! :) The reflects/glitter one is a dupe for MAC Reflects Pearl but much smoother. It's the smoothest glitter I've ever used! The pink pigment is close to MAC Fuchsia but not as pigmented. It's also a little "crumbly" as it goes on but nothing a fluffy brush can't get rid of. ;)

Overall I'm really happy with my purchase and I should just to take the plunge (4 hour drive!!) to the store soon. :)

Spring/Summer Trend: Pop Classic

Brights! If you have been reading my blog, you know that I love bright colors! I haven't done much of them lately but I'm ready for the new summer colors! I just ordered some Inglot shadows and I'm excited for those. :)

As you can see from the title of this post, this trend is called Pop Classic. This trend can be about lips, eyes or cheeks, pick one and turn up the intensity!

I decided to do a look based on eyes and one based on lips. I think matte shades work best for this trend and you don't need a lot of colors. I actually think it looks best when you have one main block of color. Also, with this trend keep the skin low key. The description of Pop Classic does say to preferably keep the lashes without mascara but with most looks I prefer mascara so I've added that to the following looks.

I love this trend because a little Electric Eel never hurt anyone. ;)

Spring/Summer Trend: Raw-Fined (Skincare)

Every season there is a trend revolving around skin. For this Spring & Summer, the skin trend is all about having fresh/dewy skin! :) This is expected because most people do not like wear a full coverage foundation/powder during hot summer days.

The main points of this trend are:

Nude, minimal makeup: Basically we want to even out our skin without looking makeup-y. So we have dark circles? It's ok! Freckles? Don't dare cover them up! (Doesn't only apply for this season, by the way. :) )
Contrasting textures: Glossy cheekbones go perfect with this trend so pull out your favorite highlighter!

Since this trend is all about skin, I figured I would talk to you guys a little bit about my skincare routine. For reference my skin is normal to dry.

Makeup Remover: MAC Gently Off - $18

I've been using MAC Gently Off for a few years now. This is one of those removers that are water/oil based and you shake up to use. I really like it because it removes every last bit of makeup. The oil doesn't make my face feel greasy, it just breaks down the makeup so I don't have to rub my eyes.

Face Wash: Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser - $9

A large number of drugstore cleansers have dried my face out/make it feel tight and this one doesn't. The bottle is huge so it lasts forever. I really love this cleanser and it is a product that I always repurchase.

Moisturizer: MAC Complete Comfort Creme - $32

By far the best moisturizer I've ever used! As I mentioned before my skin is normal to dry. This was a lifesaver during the winter months! It glides on like butter and sinks into the skin making it feel super smooth. My forehead can sometimes be slightly oily and this never makes my face feel greasy. This is a little bit pricier but you can always ask for a sample at your local MAC counter. It is pure love. :)

Lip Moisturizer: Chapstick Medicated - $1

My lip balm/conditioner changes often but this is what I'm using now. It's cheap & it works, plus I like the tingly/minty feeling this one has.

Eye Cream: MAC Vibrancy Eye Primer - $30

This has recently been added to my skincare routine. Technically, this isn't an "eye cream" but I really love it. I don't like wearing under-eye concealer because I feel like everything I put on is visible or cakes up. This is the perfect solution. It doesn't have any color but it does have a little bit of a pearl finish without being obvious that really brightens up the eyes! You only need a tiny bead...so I'm thinking that the bottle will last a while.

After watching a tutorial from Pixiwoo on makeup inspired by Jessie J, I decided to look her up because the makeup was cool looking. I really liked Jessie's J style and saw this makeup on the video Price Tag and decided to a look based on it.

Spring Trend: Terra Copper

Here's the second trend for this spring. :) This trend was not my favorite when I first saw them all but funnily enough it is one that I use very often without realizing it!!

The trend is all about a modern take on "bronzed skin". Normally when we think of bronzed skin, we think shimmery gold, sculpted cheekbones but this trend is more about adding monochromatic color to the skin without shimmer. You want the skin to look like it is naturally sunlit and not like we used a bronzer/much makeup to give color.

I think this trend is great for those of us with fair skin because sometimes it is harder to find a bronzer that doesn't make us look orange. So, because it isn't about looking bronzed but more about having a bit more color, I think this is easier to achieve! This trend works for everyone, though. The point here is to add warmth to your skin, and who doesn't want that? ;) Caramels, toffees and rich warm browns work well with all skin/eye colors.

I decided to make the eye makeup slightly darker because this trend reminds me of when you are out and about on a summer day, your face just picks up a bit of color and your skin has that very natural sunlit glow. Well, I wanted this makeup to be what I would wear if I was going out that night. :) Sexy but soft/neutral makeup. It also reminds me of what Victoria's Secret girls wear. :)

Review: Physicians Formula Happy Booster

Hi! :) Today I have a quick review on 2 powders from the PF Happy Booster line.

From the website:

Infused with our Happy Boost Blend, featuring Happy Skin and Euphoryl, natural plant extracts which have been shown to promote a feeling of happiness by mimicking the effect of Endorphins and helping protect the skin from environmental stress.

The sweet scent of Violet provides a feeling of joy each time you apply.

They do have a distinct smell. The smell doesn't linger which is good for those of you who are a bit more sensitive to smells. ;) I don't really smell the violet...to me it smells more like roses. While the smell isn't the best thing I've smelled, I can tell you that it isn't unpleasant. However, I don't feel happier after I smell them... which I didn't expect to happen. It seems gimmicky but it's ok because they are super cute anyway!

Translucent Happy Booster

As you can see this powder is very sheer. When applied to the face it gives a very subtle glow. I like that it is sheer because I can apply it pretty much all over my face and make my skin look luminous without looking like a discoball. On darker skin tones this will probably turn ashy but they do sell one called Bronzer which will probably look gorgeous on darker skin. The face powder retails for $13.95 for 11g of product while a MAC MSF retails for $28 for 10g. I'm comparing it to a MAC MSF because that's what the finish reminds me of, although these powders are not baked/mineral.

Rose Blush Happy Booster

This one has a bit more color payoff, however it is still quite sheer. I think this is a great blush for those of you who want to have pink/rosy cheeks but are a bit intimidated by the color. Having a sheer blush allows you to build the color so it's easier to use. The blush retails for $11.95 for 7g of product.

I found that both wore well throughout the day. Keep in mind though, that I have dry skin and things usually last well on me. If you have oilier skin, they might wear off faster because they are so sheer. Both compacts came with a hot pink/red brush but I find it too soft to pick up any product. I found it much easier to use a dense brush that picks up more product. The compacts are metallic hot pink and have a mirror. :)

I bought them at CVS and they were Buy 1 get 1 50% off plus they each had a $3.00 off sticker coupon so I paid $13.93, basically buy 1 get 1. :) I'm not sure if they are permanent or not but I hope so! I want to go back for the Natural blush and maybe one of the bronzier face powders.

Spring Trend: Ice Dream/Elegant Pastels

One of the trends for this Spring is all about pastels! MAC refers to it as Ice Dream & Sephora calls it Elegant Pastels...either way this trend is all about soft, chalky (in a good way!) shades that are becoming the new neutrals!

You can use any color you'd like and if you have something in your collection that is too bright you can add a white or beige color to make it more pastel. This trend looks very feminine and romantic to me so I decided to work with a pink palette. It doesn't have to be as pale as I did it, you can add a bit more color if you'd like! Feel free to take your spin on it. :)

What I love about this trend is that it is super easy and you don't need a ton of products! You can do this in a few minutes and be out the door while still looking fresh and modern. :)

My camera (or the lighting) was being weird and made one side much darker than the other... you get the idea, though! :)

Here's what I mean about adding or taking things away to suit your style. I was going out with the boy so I wanted to add a little something so I did a very thin line of gel liner & my current favorite lip color! Prolong by MAC. Even though I have red lips, the sheer foundation and the soft eyes still made everything look very fresh. :)

Favorite products for this trend:

Sheer foundation: For this look I used MAC Mineral Satinfinish but you can use your favorite sheer foundation. If you don't have a sheer one, mix your heavier coverage foundation with moisturizer to sheer it out. You can also add a luminous pigment to give your skin a glowy look. Mentionables: MAC Strobe Cream. <3
Satin Shadows: Eyeshadows that don't have too much of a frosty finish work great to recreate the elements of this trend. You can tone down shimmer by adding eyeshadow that have a satin finish to them to create that sort of chalky texture. Mentionables: MAC Parfait Amour, NYX Frosted Flakes, MAC Paradise Island, MAC Brule, MAC Paradisco, Ben Nye Banana.
My Lips But Better lip shades: Shades that are close to your skin tone and enhance your natural lip color work great with this trend as well. I did more of a frosty pink for this tutorial but you can keep it simple by adding your favorite tinted lip conditioner. Mentionables: MAC Plum Perfect and Petting Pink TLCs, Benefit Benetint, MAC Vanilla pigment mixed with lip balm.

Revamped Jewelry Box!

When I was little my mom had a jewelry box with her favorite jewelry and I would always look through it because she has some cool looking vintage-y jewelry...so I always wanted one of those to start my own collection. :) She bought me one for my 15th birthday and it looked like this:

Since then my style has changed a lot so this looks out of place anywhere I put it. It has sentimental value so I didn't want to get rid of it but for a while it was in my closet. A few months ago I decided that I wanted it to show it so I got some paint/sand paper and got to work!

I took it apart and used sand paper to sand it down. I bought those paint sample bottles that are sold now. They each cost ~$3. I bought those small ones so if I didn't like it, I didn't waste much money and it was cheap to paint it back.

Originally I was going to paint it an electric royal blue color but I still wanted it to look dainty-ish so I went with a white outside and pink inside. Now it looks like this:

This is where it lives. :)

As I mentioned, it's been a few months since I did these colors so I think I might switch it up soon. I'm thinking yellow or lime green for the inside! :) Or maybe go with the electric royal blue this time..

Current Obsession: Peacocky Kissable Lip Colour!

I am usually not a lip gloss kind of girl. I like to stick with my lipsticks but I'll throw on some gloss every now and then. However, I am in love with the new kissable lip colours from the Peacocky Collection. I'm sure you guys have seen reviews on these already. If not, check out Temptalia.com because she has great swatches of them! The website is sold out of Peacocky (the blue one) but you can check your local counter if you want it!
I'm in love with this! It looks so crazy in the tube but it's so much fun!! I pulled it out of my makeup bag with my lipstick and my friend looked at me like I was crazy for wanting to put on this blue lip gloss! I have not worn it by itself (yet?) but I do love it mixed with other stuff!

My favorite products to mix it with are: Magenta Lip Liner, Impassioned Lipstick or Up The Amp.

It's a very electric yet vampy lip! LOVE!

DYI: Inspiration Board

My window wall has been looking a little plain and I wanted a place where I can "store" makeup pictures/etc that I can refer to them easily so I decided to an inspirational board.

So here's what you'll need:

Cork board: I bought plain ones because I knew that I wanted them covered. I bought 4 in a pack for less than $6.

You'll also need something that you can cover the tiles with! I pulled out different pieces of fabric and some of the pictures I wanted to put up so I can see what they look like against the background. I decided against the glittery cardboard/paper because I didn't want it to rip over time and moving the pushpins around.

You are also going to need cute pushpins and double sided tape to tape the board to the wall.

Finally, you need a stapler or glue to cover your cork tiles with your fabric/paper.

Here's what mine looks like now. I like that I can switch it up to my mood or whenever I get tired of the pictures! I also added a beauty shopping list + a picture of Benefit Coralista since that one has been on my "want" list! The other white paper is the products I used on a bride whose wedding I'm doing this month! The blocks are covering her name/wedding date... ;)

I went to CVS the other day and as I was leaving the beauty isle I spotted some new polishes called Confetti! They had a lot of cute colors and some glitter ones. I ended up buying Belle of the Ball ($1.99). Belle of the Ball is a really pretty lilac color. The bottle looks like the polishes they sell at Forever 21 (LA Girls).

I also picked up Milani Rockstar Heavy Glitter Polish in Gold ($4.99). The glitter in Gold are large pieces that look like confetti so I decided it would be very appropriate layer them! :D

This picture was taken on the second day and it lasted through a day of shipment at work where I had to be opening boxes, unwrapping things so I'm pretty impressed. Today is the third day and there is some light chipping but for $1.99 I think it's a good buy. It will definitely last through an event so if you were to buy for one-day-wear-only thing then it's still pretty cheap and they have a lot of cute colors! I'm going to pick up some more since I change my nail polish by the third-4th day anyway! :)

Once the lilac chips more I think I'll add more Gold on top! :)

The Milani glitter does chip off a bit faster because of the size but it's so pretty and I got so many compliments in the few days I've had these two on.

Oh! What is your favorite, darkest liquid and/or cream liner? I love my blacktrack but sometimes it isn't as black as I'd like.

Naked Palette + Pink Friday

I bought the Naked Palette from Sephora the last time they had it in stock. Since there are MANY reviews for it I'm not going to be doing one. I do have to say that the shadows are way better than other Urban Decay shadows (they were too powdery for me) and it is all people said it is! I'm really happy I bought it.I do have shades that are dupes for the ones in the palette but it is nice to have a palette that has everything I need for a neutral eye!

I know they recently changed it to include a brush but I bought mine with the liner. I haven't used the liner yet because I bought a Zero liner previously and I have Costa Riche by MAC which I love!

I was so excited to play with it when I received it and here's the first look I did with it.
Since the look was neutral/smoke-ish, I added fun bright pink lips so add some color! I know this is not everyone's thing but I love it! :)

So I did a tutorial on one of these looks but it was not working... so this is all I have! :( Hopefully this helps someone who is looking for any makeup ideas for tomorrow! Super late but here it is!

Hair! (which needs to be re-dyed!)

Amber Lights (lid)
Gold Mode (inner corner)
Handwritten (crease, lower lash line & brows)

Pure Show Liner
Reflects Bronze

Apply Amber Lights with a flat shader brush to your lid to pack the color on. With the same brush apply Gold Mode (you can use this wet for a more metallic effect!) to the inner corner. Switch to a fluffy brush to apply your crease colors. Start with a light color (Symmetry), close to your skin tone to help blend and create a gradient effect. Define your eye by applying a darker color (Handwritten) to the outer V and lower lash line. Line your eyes with your liner of choice! Dab some glitter to the outer corner. Apply lashes & you are done with the eyes!

Emphasize

Apply a peachy color to your apples (Peaches) and follow your natural shadow on the hollows of your cheeks to apply your bronzer or contour color.

Lips:
Soar lip liner
Faerie Glen lipstick
Bare Necessity Dazzleglass

Line your lips (make sure your pencil is sharpened), add lipstick & gloss if you want the extra sparkle! :)

Apply your base & then apply a color close to your skin tone with a bit of shimmer to brighten up the eyes! Line your eyes with your favorite black liner & add mascara. Done!

MAC Trend: Redd Velvet

I'm a huge fan of red lips! Red lips are part of the fall trends these year but to me red lips are perfect for any time of the year!!! Pull out your red lipsticks! :) This trend is great for day and night time wear! Red lips are a classic accessory!

I paired the red lips with a light shimmery shadow in this look but you can do your own thing! If anyone wants to send me pictures of them rocking red lips, feel free to do so! I can do a post on readers so we can see all the different looks!

Also, it doesn't have to be a true red, pink & coral count as red! So does black for those of you who can rock a black lip! :D

My favorite Red lip products:

MAC Dubonnet: This is a deep red color with a bit of a brown base. Gorgeous on different skin tones!
MAC Cyndi: Perfect color for those who are a bit shy when it comes to bright colors and don't prefer to wear full on reds!
MAC Ruby Woo: This color is a perfect true red on me! It's better to try it on though, because some pull orange while others pull blue.
OCC NSFW: Great color that looks amazing by itself or with a clear gloss over it.
NYC Mahogany: A darker red with a bit of pink that can be great on fair and darker skin tones.

Pink lip products:

MAC Girl About Town: Awesome color! Can be paired with a more nude lip liner to tone it down.
Sugarpill Dollipop eyeshadow: Must be worn over lip balm but it looks awesome! I'm not sure if this is lip safe, though!
OCC Anime: Amazing neon pink color!!

Coral lip products:

MAC Impassioned: This is the most amazing lip color in the coral (can also be more pink on some skin tones) family! Looks great paired with darker lip liner (ex: MAC Nightmoth) to deepen the color!

MAC Vegas Volt: Great coral/orange lip color. Looks great paired with black winged liner.
Illamasqua Brink: Awesome medium/pale coral color! You can always use a darker lip color to add more depth.

Black lip products:

MAC Cyber: Not necessarily a black color but it is very dark, it is pretty amazing though! More of a night lip color for most people.

MAC Oversexed gloss: Sheer plummy color for those that want a deep color but not too dark.
MAC Night Violet Mattene: This was a Limited Edition product and I debated putting it on here but it's my favorite dark lip color, ever! I have 3, haha. If it is ever repromoted, you must pick one up or at least try it on!
NYX Penelope: This is a true black lipstick. I don't wear too often but I love to mix it with reds and berry colors to make them darker. You can wear it alone, too!

A few quick tips:

-Make sure your lips are exfoliated and moisturized because brighter/darker colors enhance any imperfections/dry skin.

-If you don't want to wear a full on red, tap the color on the lips or over lip balm to make more of a stain.

-When wearing bright "red" colors, always use a lip liner.

-Use a lip brush for perfect definition.

-You can go around your lip line with concealer to sharpen the edges and prevent bleeding/feathering.

Sugarpill & CallowLily: Sweetheart Quad Review! (FOTD)

I know there are plenty of reviews for Sugarpill now but I'm still doing mine! ;p I received the Sweetheart Quad as part of my bday gift so yeah...

Let's start with packaging:

Burning Heart Quad - Sweetheart Quad

I like that they are different so you can tell which one is which without opening each palette! Does anyone have the Cold Heart quad? What color is it?

As most of you know, the quad is made of cardboard but it is still very sturdy. It has a mirror of good size which I like because who wants a tiny mirror that you can't see what you are doing? I don't!

The back of the palette has the names of the shadows.

When the palettes first came out they did not have this but it's good the packaging was changed!

The shadows:
The Sweetheart quad has: Dollipop, Afterparty, Midori & Tako.

The formula:
This quad has a combination of matte & shimmer colors. They are buttery soft & I love them. They are easy to blend and have intense color payoff!

That's one swipe with no base! Love.

Everyone knows I love comparisons so here they are:

Sugarpill Dollipop - MUFE 26

When I first saw Dollipop I thought of MUFE 26 but you can see from the swatch that Dollipop is a true pink & MUFE 26 has a lot of purple undertones.

Urban Decay Peace - Sugarpill Afterparty - Ben Nye Cosmic Blue - MAC Freshwater

If MAC Freshwater & Ben Nye Cosmic Blue had a baby it would be Afterparty. It's a bright blue with shimmer that gives it a lot of dimension.

Sugarpill Tako -Ben Nye White - MAC Gesso

These are basic matte whites and have pretty much the same payoff. I can always use another white since both my MAC & Ben Nye ones are showing pan.

Ben Nye Jade - Sugarpill Midori - Urban Decay Graffiti

Midori is closest to Ben Nye Jade but I have nothing in my collection that can dupe this color. I thought it would be the least unique in the palette but I was pleasantly surprised. It has a bit of a golden shimmer lace through it which I really like.

PROS:

-Formula: Shadows blend super easily! I love that the quad includes shimmery & matte shadows.

-Price: I find the shadows to be super affordable at $8.50 each (when you buy a palette) or even at $12 each in singles.

-Packaging: I find the packaging to be very sturdy even though it is cardboard. Plus, it's cute to boot. I like that the back has the name of the shadows, too.

Let's talk Brushes!

The title says it all. In this post I'm going to talk about all the brushes I have, where I store them & what I use them for. Hopefully it will serve as a bit of a guide and answer any questions you have. :D

Storage:

The container is from Bealls Outlet. I bought it for $7.99 or $9.99. The brushes are held up by vase filler from Michaels. It's called ColorFill vase filler. ($5.49) It looks like this:

Face Brushes:

MAC 187SE: Comes in a set of 5 that are available during the holidays. The set retails for $49.50, so each brush comes out to $9.90. This brush is very versatile. It can be used for powder, liquids and creams. I mainly use it for cream blushes or powder blushes (when I do not want a lot of color). The full-size one retails for $42.

MAC 188: This retails for $34. This brush can also be used for cream, liquid & powder. I mainly use it for powder. I really like to use for mineralized blushes and bronzer.

MAC 109: Retails for $32. This is a rounded brush with a bit of a flat top. I use this to apply blush but mainly to contour.

Essence of Beauty Powder Brush: This brush comes in a set of 3 double ended brushes, so you get six in the set. The set retails for $14.99. I use this to apply a highlight color to the cheekbones or to blend out blush edges.

Kirkland Powder Brush: This brush came in a 14-piece set that had 12 brushes. The cost was ~$18, making the brush super affordable. This set is no longer available. However, I think that Costco releases a brush set every year. I use the brush to blend out any harsh blush edges.

Kirkland Blush Brush: This brush is part of the same set. It's similar to MAC 134 in shape but a lot smaller. I use this to apply Mineralize Skinfinish (MSF) or to apply blushes. You have to use a light hand when using this brush with pigmented blushes because it can apply too much color at once.

ELF Foundation Brush: Retails for $1. I bought mine at Target. I don't know how well it performs with liquid because I use it to apply powder under the eyes. For what I use it for, it works great!

Essence of Beauty Angle Brush: This brush is also part of the 3 double ended brush set. You can buy it individually for $5.49. It is a great blush brush and you can also use to contour. It applies the perfect amount of product so that you don't have to work too hard at blending the color out. The hairs stain and I've used many different products to wash it and the color still stays. This is not a big deal to me but it might bother some people. This happens to the majority of white bristles, though.

Eye Brushes:

Loew-Cornell Maxine Mop 1/2": This brush retails at ~$5 depending where you buy it. It's a painting brush so it isn't as soft as makeup brushes. After a few washes it does become softer. I use this to blend out a highlight color towards the crease or to highlight my cheekbones.

Loew-Cornell Maxine Mop 3/8": This one costs ~$4. It's similar to MAC 239 but not as soft and a bit thinner. I use to apply colors to the lid most of the time. I also like to use it when I use colors wet because it's a little stiffer than most flat shaders.

Sonia Kashuk Eyeshadow Brush: ($4.99 @ Target) This is also really similar to MAC 239. Again, it isn't as soft as a MAC 239 but not as stiff as the Loew-Cornell one. It's a great brush, especially for the price! I use this one to apply color to the lid, to blend color in the crease, to apply highlight...for everything.

Loew-Cornell Maxine Mop 1/4": Retails for $2-$3 depending where you buy it. It's one of my favorite brushes. It's great to apply color to the lower lash line, to the waterline and to do any detail or work on small areas. This one is softer than the other 2 Loew-Cornell mentioned.

Sonia Kashuk Small Eyeshadow Brush: This brush was part of a set of 5 brushes (plus a case) that retailed for $9.99. However, I don't think this particular set is available anymore. You can buy the brush (better quality) by itself for $4.99 or buy one of the new sets that has it included for $7-$15. It depends on how much you want the other brushes in the set. The brushes that came in the set were a bit scratchy when compared to the brushes that you buy individually. I use it for the same things that I use the Loew-Cornell above.

MAC 219SE: This brush is part of the holiday collections that MAC releases every year. The eye set has 5 brushes for $49.50, so each brush is $9.90. This is a great brush for smudging liner, applying color to the lower lash line, inner corner and waterline. The full-size one retails $24.50.

MAC 219SE: same as above.

Essence of Beauty Small Crease Brush: This brush can be bought at CVS. It comes in a set (***) of 2 for $5.49. It is smaller than the MAC219 but it does/I use it for the same things.

NYX Contour Dome Brush MB14: ($6). This is one of my favorite brushes of all time! It can be used to apply a wash of color, build layers of color and to blend everything out easily. As you can see from the picture it is smaller than the MAC 224 which allows you to use it on smaller areas.

MAC 224: This is one retails for $29. It's sightly bigger than most tapered fluffy brushes and this can be a good or bad thing. If you have smaller eyes then it might be too big to apply color but you can still blend the color out by using it clean. However, the bigger size can also be a good thing because you can use it to apply concealer or powder under the eyes. I use mine to blend out color and to apply powder under the eyes.

MAC 217: This brush has bristles that are packed more densely than the MAC 224 which allows it to apply more color but the fluffy shape still allows you to blend all colors easily. It also works great to apply creamy products like paint pots! It retails for $22.50.

Sonia Kashuk Crease Brush: Similar to the MAC 217 but even more dense. It works great but requires a bit more work to blend out the colors. I really like this brush to pack/blend color to the crease. Retails for $5.99 @ Target.

Essence of Beauty Crease Brush: This one is the other brush that comes in the (***) set mentioned above. As mentioned before the set retails for $5.49, so each brush is $2.75. This brush is very affordable and works great. It's smaller than MAC 217 so it doesn't blend as fast but it would work great for people who find the 217 too big for their crease.

NYX #4 MB06: ($6) Great brush to apply highlight to the cheekbones or to apply a wash of color to the lid. This brush is also good to build color. I like to use it for smokey eyes where I don't want the black to be black right away.

NYX #3 MB05: ($6) Shorter and more dense than the #4. It applies more color at once. I like to apply color to the lid or apply highlight.

MAC 208: This brush retails for $19.50 and it's my favorite lining brush that I've ever used. It's a good brush because you can apply your liner, thick or thin, line the lower lash line, fill in your brows with it, define the crease..etc. Very versatile brush.

Sephora 61: This is a lip brush but I'm including it in the eye section because I've never used it for the lips as I don't like flat top brushes for the lips. I use it to line my eyes. It retails for $10 and while it isn't as cheap as drugstore brushes, it is still an affordable brush that works great.

Lip Brushes:

MAC 316SE: I like lip brushes that have a round edge unlike the Sephora 61. Not much I can say about this.. I use it to apply lip colors, of course. It's a little soft and sometimes it makes it harder to apply darker colors because of this. I've been looking at the MAC 231 which is an eye brush but it might be perfect for what I look for in a lip brush. This one is part of the holiday sets but a full-size one retails for $19.50.

Miscellaneous Brushes:

Kirkland Fan Brush: I use this to apply shimmery MSFs as a highlight and to clean up under the eyes. It was also part of the Kirkland set.

MAC 204: This is a lash brush but I don't use it for that as much... I mainly use it to comb my eyebrows in place. I tried using disposable mascara wands or lash/brow combs but I don't like them as much as the MAC 204 because the 204 is really sturdy and really lets comb everything through. It retails for $12.

True Blood: Pam!

Pam is one of my favorite characters so I was pretty excited about doing this look! :) The look is a grey smokey eye with a tinted/blotted strong lip. I know a strong tinted lip doesn't make much sense but that's how I can describe it. It doesn't look like a full on lipstick but the color is pretty strong.

Here's the look I chose:

Her waterline looks as if she tried to cover the "bloodiness" with makeup but it still shows the red/burgundy tone which adds a nice twist to just a regular grey smokey eye.

The lips turned out a bit more red than in the picture but you can choose whatever lip color you wish! :)

Amy is the sweet, colorful girl behind Sugarpill & one of the people that inspired me to get into makeup! I had the chance to do an interview with her, so let's get on with the questions! :)

What made you create your own cosmetic line?
I started my DIY fashion line, Shrinkle, about 8 years ago. I thought it would be really fun to come up with a makeup line that would perfectly compliment the bold, colorful, crazy-patterned clothing I designed. I wanted to create my own color range and packaging, and have complete control over the product's formula and quality. Bright makeup has been around forever, but I often found myself saying things like "I really love this color, but wish it applied more smoothly..."or "Why is this awesome eyeshadow in such difficult packaging?" By starting my own makeup line, I could basically create my dream makeup as I saw fit.

It took you a very long time to create your makeup line. What was your favorite part of creating Sugarpill?
Coming up with the colors, definitely! I had so much fun trying to come up with unique colors, I didn't even mind that I barely slept for months. Second best part of the process was designing the packaging. I loved having complete creative freedom. It also gave me a great excuse to meet one of my favorite local artists, Liz Lorini(www.misskika.com), who we commissioned to draw the cover girl on the eyeshadow boxes.

How does it feel to be the one behind one of the most anticipated makeup lines?
I had talked about launching Sugarpill for so long that there was a LOT of pressure to live up to the hype. But at the same time I felt lucky to have so much support from everybody!

What was the process of creating bright and pigmented eyeshadows like? Where did you get all the inspiration from?
I was inspired by Kryolan cosmetics, which I've been selling online since 2004. I always loved their products and color selection, but wanted to change the packaging, make new colors, tweak the formula, and market them my own way. So I guess Kryolan started my bright makeup kick, then I injected my own personality into that obsession to create Sugarpill.

I love the names of the eyeshadows! How did you come up with such cute names?
Most of the colors are named after my friends, cats, and birds! Tako (white pressed eyeshadow) is named after my white cat Tako.Flamepoint (orange pressed eyeshadow) is named after my flamepoint siamese cat. Lumi (white shimmer with iridescent turquoise sheen) is named after my friend Lumi, who is always radiant and sparkling. And I really like birds... especially magpies and blue starlings!

Sugarpill has been compared to Makeup Forever, MAC and other high end brands. What makes Sugarpill different?
Awesome! I love Makeup Forever and MAC, and am honored to have Sugarpill mentioned in the same sentence as them. While we all have bright, highly-pigmented colors in common, one thing that sets us apart is that we love catering to party girls and adventure-seekers. A lot of mainstream brands encourage playing it safe and using colors that enhance your "natural" beauty. We think you should go all out, paint yourself silly, and party till dawn!

What is the one product you think every Sugarpill Cosmetics fan should have?
Goldilux Chromalust eyeshadow is our top seller and a definite must-have. You haven't experienced gold eyeshadow until you've tried Goldilux! It is the most insanely metallic gold you'll ever own.

You have been designing for your Shrinkle clothing line and selling Kryolan for a few years. Now you have your own cosmetics company! How do you do it all?
When we first launched Sugarpill, I was working about 17 hours a day and drinking LOTS of coffee. Luckily, it wasn't long before I found two super awesome assistants to help with the world load. So now I have time to breathe, yay!

I’m sure you get asked all the time and some might think it is a secret but what do you use to dye your hair?
Heehee, I'm not secretive about my hair at all! I use Special FX "Fishbowl Blue."

Sugarpill recently launched and we want more! :) What can we expect of Sugarpill Cosmetics in the future?
I'm currently working on tons of new colors to expand our eyeshadow collection. Those will be released in a few months. We are also in the beginning stages of developing new product lines. But I have so many ideas that I need to narrow down before I can say for sure what it is that I am doing. So I guess the short answer would be: LOTS!!

Tutorial using Ben Nye & Sugarpill :)

Hey guys! I did a tutorial a few days ago. This is the look we are going for:

I used this large fluffy by NYX for the whole look. Start by appying your base. I used UDPP all over. Then I applied Ben Nye Banana to the entire eye area.

I applied Ben Nye Black Plum (which is actually a regular brown color with a bit of red) to the crease and the lower lash line. You can make it as dark as you want.

I used Sugarpill Love+ all around the brown. I blended the color out doing windshield wiper motions creating a sideways U.

Starting in the inner corner I applied Ben Nye White and MAC Pink Opal as the highlight.

I'm skipping the liner for the look. I applied Benefit Recess liner to my waterline. The mascara is Maybelline Pulse.

Since I did the eyes pretty strong I wanted to keep everything else more toned down. For the lips I used MAC Ripened Runway very lightly over Soft Lips Lip Balm. On the cheeks I used a very light wash of MAC Emote.

I had to run out after I finished this and didn't get a very good chance at taking pictures. :(

Cutting out the hair because it was in little twists/pin curls, haha.

OCC Lip Tars (+ review) Vs. Lime Crime Lipsticks

I'm probably the 1000th person to review OCC Lip Tars.. ;) I've had these for a while and I love them. There are a few that I use every week!

I actually split the lip tars with a few girls from the MAC_Cosmetics community since these bring a ton of product and you only need one drop!

Swatches:

This dot...

...gives you:

PROS:
-You can mix the colors and make any color your little heart desires. :)
-Formula: These are liquidy enough to allow proper mixing but not overly so that you can't control them while applying. I really like that they dry to a semi-matte/satin finish.
-They stay on forever!

NEUTRAL:
-Price: I have to put these under neutral because some are worth the $12.50 but others aren't going to be used as much (ie: Blue, Black, Yellow). I think the price is very good for the quality of the product but not everyone will get the money's worth out of certain colors. You can always find people to split them with!
-Packaging: The lip tars come in squeeze tubes which work great to get product out and mix. However, they do squirt more out than needed sometimes. I wish they would come with a wand that can be interchangeable with the cap it has now...umm. So yeah, they work great but sometimes too much oozes out.

CONS:
None.

Ok, so when Lime Crime released their lipsticks I wanted to get some but with all the drama going on I don't really want to support a company that has so much drama surrounding it (whether it is true or not).

So I decided to recreate the Lime Crime Candyfuture Lipsticks with OCC Lip Tars!
Some aren't exact matches (and maybe in real life they would look even more different due to the difference in monitor settings) but are close enough.

Also, what's great about creating the colors with Lip Tars is that I can adjust to colors that suit my skin tone better.

The numbers are the ratio of the lip tars to each other. (4:1, 4 parts of white to 1 part blue)

Sugarpill Cosmetics Review and FOTD!

I'm very excited about this quad! I ordered the Burning Heart Quad while Sugarpill Cosmetics had their 15% off sale which saved me $5.10! I paid $33.90 including shipping.

Let's talk shipping, what it comes with..etc. first.
She shipped on the 16th and I received my order on the 19th. The package came in this box which has the cute cat/logo stamped on it.

I like little details so I liked that Amy (owner of Sugarpill Cosmetics) signed the invoice.

Everything comes wrapped in hot pink tissue paper. :)

I received 2 free Sugarpill Cosmetics glitter stickers & 2 business cards.

What can I say? This is gorgeous. I haven't seen this much detail in a new indie cosmetics company, ever.

The mirror is pretty big so that you can see what you are doing if you needed to touch-up on the go or something.

Swatches: (These were done without a primer)

Flamepoint, Buttercupcake, Love+, Poison Plum.

I'm sure everyone wants to know how comparable Poison Plum is to MUFE 92. Here is a swatch of them side by side.

Poison Plum - MUFE 92.
Poison Plum is more red based while MUFE 92 is more blue based.

Buttercupcake - MAC Chrome Yellow.
It isn't very visible in this picture but Chrome Yellow is warmer than Buttercupcake.

Flamepoint - MAC Orange mixed with MAC Red Brick.
I don't have a dupe for this in my collection so I had to mix two MAC colors.

Love+ - Ben Nye Red Hot.
I have no color in my collection that can dupe Love+. I do have a few similar ones but the Ben Nye was the closest one.

PROS:
-Formula: I love the feel/texture of these shadows. They are smooth but not powdery. They remind me of the texture of Matte2 eyeshadows. They blend like all matte eyeshadows.
-Price: They have 0.06 more oz than MUFE eyeshadows and are $7 cheaper. They have 0.09 oz more than MAC and are $2.50 cheaper. I think these are very fairly priced at $12 each (or $8.50 each when buying a quad)!
-Packaging: Super cute, large mirror, eyeshadows pop out easily. The quad is made of sturdy cardboard. I've had a Ben Nye cardboard palette for about 1-2 years and it has held up just fine. :)

CONS:
-Quad isn't labeled. I would have liked if the quad had the name of the shadows on the back on the quad or underneath each pan.

Final thoughts:
I love the quad! I have similar colors to the ones in the quad but bright colors and cute packaging are my weakness. Plus, it's hard not to find a dupe in my collection since I've been collecting for a while now. The quad (unless you like the cute pots) is a better deal, at $8.50 each eyeshadow, can't beat that. :) I hope that she expands the line to include cheek and lip stuff! :D
